Introducing the Native Plant Seed Pack Program
Today we're launching the first live program in Copper Sanctuary's history: the Native Plant Seed Pack Program. The idea is simple — we grow, clean, and hand-package seed from native Sonoran Desert wildflowers, and give the packs away free to Arizona homeowners.
Why seed packs?
The Valley is one of the fastest-growing metro areas in the country, and most of what gets planted here didn't evolve here. Thirsty, imported landscaping needs constant watering and gives almost nothing back to the wildlife that depends on this desert.
Native plants flip that math. They run on monsoon rain, shrug off our summers, and feed the pollinators, hummingbirds, and native bees that hold the Sonoran ecosystem together.
What's in a pack
Every pack contains seed for five natives, hand-selected for Arizona yards:
- Mexican Gold Poppy (Eschscholzia californica ssp. mexicana) — sheets of glowing orange and the easiest native annual to grow from seed
- Desert Marigold (Baileya multiradiata) — golden blooms nearly year-round
- Parry's Penstemon (Penstemon parryi) — hot-pink spires hummingbirds can't resist
- Desert Bluebells (Phacelia campanularia) — electric cobalt cups that native bees swarm
- Brittlebush (Encelia farinosa) — the silvery shrub that turns hillsides gold each spring
Each pack ships with a beginner-friendly planting guide timed to our desert seasons.
How to get one (or fund one)
If you live in Arizona, request a free pack — no cost, no catch.
If you'd like to pay it forward, $10 funds one complete pack for a neighbor's yard. Donations go through PayPal Giving Fund and are tax-deductible — we're a confirmed 501(c)(3), EIN 33-3319870.
See the donation tiers and help us turn thirsty turf back into living desert, one yard at a time.
